I will be sharing On This Day in Jury History features regularly throughout the year, corresponding to the items on FIJA’s 2016 Jury Rights Calendar.

Today marks the anniversary of the 2009 jury nullifications in the case of Melroy Cort. Veteran Marine Corporal Melroy H. Cort had both legs amputated due to wounds from an improvised bomb explosion during his third tour of duty in Iraq. In 2006, it became necessary to travel from Ohio to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for medical purposes.
